First Apartment, First FO

I finished these Bella Mittens for my friend Kylie a while ago, but I was lazy putting up pictures for several reasons:

1. My camera cord was still packed away
2. I didn't have internet.

I fixed 1 by getting off my butt and digging around for it, and of course, finishing the unpacking. All that's left to unpack are some knick knack boxes that I just filled with random stuff that didn't have a better home.

As for 2... well, let's say now that I have my first car, I'm going to be frequenting WiFi hotspots. I'm writing this from McDonald's, with a steamy Mocha. Coffee is a good way to relax at the end of a long day... haha! I only bought it because I feel guilty coming in to use WiFi and not buying anything, but logistically...

$2.50 * 30 = $75, plus you have to factor in gas (not much, but little bits add up over time.)
And cable AND internet from Time Warner is $85... minus the calories. Really, the utility of having cable and internet in my apartment whenever I please is far greater than that of McDonald's internet.

Guess what I'm getting after my first paycheck? Hehe.

Also after my first paycheck, I'm makin' myself a studio! My apartment has one more room than I budgeted for, which was already packed with all my crafty stuff... so now, I've just unpacked the crafty stuff in place and called it a studio. I'm excited.

Also, I need to start my mom's birthday present. GAK!!

Dino the Dinosaur!

Dino the Dinosaur

Dino is a friendly little dinosaur, whose construction is a bit tricky for beginners but a fun challenge for the more advanced toy makers among us. I’ll post tutorial pictures soon, when I work on his girlfriend!

The Pattern is Finished!!

... Juuuust... uhhhh... not typed up.

I know, I totally fail, but I had computer issues (as in... my computer is packed away because I'm waiting to move!) but I swear so help me... tomorrow I'll dig it out and type it up.

So much for my gold medal :'(

Under Construction

So, I heard you heard I got a job. That is correct. I also have an apartment in a tiny town and I sock to finish before my dearest Ash comes to see me! Here are some other things I have (or will have)

  1. No school work! (Read as: more time to knit)
  2. A pattern for Dino (Read as: I have goals and follow them, just...)
  3. A hedgehog who will live with me! This is my favorite point.
  4. A TON of things to unpack, sort through, then repack before I move to my new home.
So, if you are waiting on baited breath to see what I'm up to or some new pattern that I've found, sorry to disappoint. I promise I'll put up pictures of my apartment as soon as I get settled in! Sound fair?

Oh so proud!

What's that coming around the bend? It's my finished dinosaur!

In the end, I couldn't get the buttons to work the way I wanted, but I'm going to keep experimenting.

I'm so happy with how he turned out, and that things worked the way I wanted to! I want to make a girlfriend for him :B

So, go team USA, and go me for finishing the hard part of this trial! Now, test knit and write the pattern!

Of course, here's the obligatory shot showing how big the doll actually is. Gosh, I need to clean my desk! Of course, that will be easy seeing as... I got my dream co-op! I'm moving out of my dorm room on Thursday!

Winter Knitting Olympics

So, I don't know if you know about this, but the Yarn Harlot is hosting the 2010 Knitting Olympics. Hehe! I decided to participate, despite the enormous amount of work I have to do, with the quarter ending and all. Oh well! My goal is this: to knit and write the pattern for one of the designs that's been in my head for a while: T-Rex! So, root for me, because if I complete my goal and get that shiny metal button for this blog, ya'll get another free pattern :) I'm going to cast on around 7 tonight, during the RHA Valentine's Day Dance. I'll be multitasking.

Anyone doing anything super fabulous? I'd like to know!

What's new? Ahhhh!

I'm sorry about not posting so much. I've been busy with the end of the quarter at school, and homework, and hedgehogs. I have been knitting, though, whenever my hands are free!

I made 5 baby hats in the past week as part of RIT Hooks and Needles. We're collecting them and going to Rochester General after the break, to give them to the neonatal unit! I'm so excited, because this community project has been so well received - a lot of members have learned how to decrease, and knit in the round, to help out with this. So far, we have about 20 hats, but I know I'm planning on beasting out a few more: they only take about an hour and a half to make!

I'm also working on two projects for the Hooks and Needles pattern book, Bella gloves for my friend from highschool, and Ashley's socks... STILL.

What's even harder is the fact that I have so many things that I want to make, but no time! And, spring break is coming up fast, and I meant to come home with knitting things for my family and friends... uh-oh!

How are you with knitting for others? Whenever anyone asks me, I always make sure to say "Just so you know, there's a waiting list!"
